Meetup, Teaching

Went to the LJ meetup last night. zedd, silvrayn, miss_jones, sparkledrop, amagadlyn, joceiphus, sugarbeet, and Ben (who I think is now want_a_be) were there. It was a fun time, went around the room with everyone’s jobs and passing around anecdotal stories about Minneapolis, Driving, and other stuff. zedd gets the “HARDCORE” award for driving from Rochester. Afterwards I was getting pretty hungry, so we dropped off Ben and headed to the IHOP with joceiphus. Yummy breakfast food was had by all.

I get to teach the 1901 (Structure of Computer Programming I a.k.a. Beginning Programming) this Friday. I’m pretty excited, but I haven’t taught students who are this green before anything, unless you count the lab/discussion that I lead last summer. I think I’m going to get to teach them the joy of special forms like “if” and “and” and “or” and the meaning behind them being a special form and not a combination. We’ll see how far the professor gets today.

Here Comes the Sun

I can’t tell you how pleased I was this morning to find out that the sun is now waking up before I do. I always enjoy my morning walk alot better when there’s some rays piercing through the normal winter wonderland. Winter would be great if we got more sun during these months.

Going to the LJ meetup tonight with silvrayn. I’ll probably be meeting a bunch of people I didn’t even know existed. I wonder what kind of food the Eat Street Cafe serves.

I had an unplanned nap yesterday. I’m not sure if it was due to actual tiredness or if it was conditioned because I was attempting to read a paper whilst lying in bed - with the bed triggering some unconscious reaction making me sleepier. Then again, it could just be a really boring paper.

Gastof’s

Last night I went to gastof’s with Kelly and Andi. Chuck was going to come too, but he came down with something, and doesn’t really want to be sick for next week’s big demo. I don’t blame him, it was really smoky and if I was even a little sick, I would have had issues by the end of the night. So he just dropped us off.

The band was playing polka music, which is surprisingly good, and a bunch of people were dancing. The ages of these people ran the gamut. There were 21-year olds all the way up to a guy who I’m sure was at least 70.

Curious Dreams and Other Stuff

Okay this turned out very long. Learning LJ-Cut time…

The Strangest Dream Ever

I had the stangest dream of my life last night. I don’t remember too much of it, as I usually forget them, but this one was especially wierd. I was living in my same apartment, but for some reason I had a roommate. I woke and took a shower, while listening to the radio like I usually do (I actually listen to NPR’s newscast in the morning on the web) when the fire alarm went off in the building. Of course I did what I would normally do in this situation, ignore the alarm and continue to shower. As I’m finishing, I vaguely hear things about terrorists on the radio over the alarm. I get out of the shower and start drying off, and then realize that there are 2 armed, uniformed men in my bathroom (how we all fit in there is beyond me). They tell me that the alarm is a terrorist alarm, and I just kindof nonchalantly say ‘okay’ and go to get dressed, but as I reach for some undergarments, there are 2 vicious squirrels IN my underwear! Of course this is when I wake up.

I think back at the dream and wonder if my mind is trying to tell me something. Mabye this is my body’s way of telling me that squirrels are going to try and take over the planet.

Watching way too much anime

I made a huge dent in my anime debt last night. I watched some Daa Daa Daa, Airmaster, Cinderella Boy, Full Metal Alchemist, Shingetsuan Tsukihime, Yawara!, Konjiki no Gash Bell, Ocha-ken, Chrno Crusade, and Condor Hero. Shingetsuan Tsukihime ended well, not in the kind of happy-ending-disney sort of way that lots of anime end up. Condor Hero is proving to still be the best old-style martial arts anime out there. Konjiki was surprisingly plot-ful as opposed to it’s normal hooliganistic humor, a good contrast to the last episode (“Muteki Folgore!”). Cinderella Boy finished, and boy am I glad – that series was very horrible. If I wasn’t such an anime addict, I would have stopped watching it a long time ago. Anyway with all these series finishing, I will probably get to use my DVD burner again sometime this week. One of the bonuses of having a DVD burner is that you only need to use it every two weeks or so, instead of all the time, as my old CD-RW drive got used. It feels so nice to be able to clear out 4.3GB of stuff at once.

My Diet

In other news, my diet isn’t going exactly as planned. While this looks great overall, the flattening at the end is what bugs me. Oh, and that huge space right before December? That’s all of November missing from my chart. I have no doubt that I threw it away because I had been all the way through December already. I really did weigh myself and write it down, but I have no clue where it went. At any rate you can see I didn’t really lose any poinds during that month anyway. The sizable other chunk missing is the christmas holiday, which I am perfectly fine missing, and I surprisingly didn’t gain weight over.

I’ll probably stop writing in LJ sometime in the near future, since I don’t really want to pay, and I have a perfectly good site of my own to work with. Mabye I’ll see if I can make my site work with LogJam or something, or add comments. Comments are cool. I’ll probably keep this account around anyway, just so I can keep track of some LJ people I know.

Anime

I have lots of anime to watch.

Good Sleep Come Now

There came a point in my day today when I wanted to watch some anime, so I decided to sit down and do just that. I get into my chair and realize that my feet are cold because I took my socks off, so I decided to watch laying in bed instead in hopes of warming them. I warmed myself a little too much, and ended up sleeping from 5pm to 7pm. This would normally be fine, but this weekend I stayed up until 4am for three days in a row, and I was really hoping to fix my sleep cycle today. In other news, I discovered how to join communities in lj. I should really set a picture on here as well, but the end of Shingetsuan Tsukihime is calling to me, and my stomach is ready for a chicken breast that I’ve been thawing specifically for 12 hours for it.

Time to Get to the Blogging, Thing.

I’m trying out this live-journal thing to find out if I can get the journal looking like my base0 homepage. If I can’t, I’ll probably be coding a bunch on that in eht next few days making it more featureful by adding categories or something. I’m in search of good blogging software, both to post and customize. Pybloxsom really appeals to me from a hacker’s point of view, but everyone who uses it seems to be very non-creative or it’s not very customizable. I’d like to see one that is “tricked out”, that has images and things floating around, with moods or whatever. I also looked at Movable Type, but it looks like it would be a pain to setup, and it looks like it’s not really free as Debian would define it, which I prefer stuff I use to be. Oh well, this is just a first post really, explaining why I actually have a livejournal now.
