Get Up, Come on Get Down With the Sickness

After I posted yesterday I started feeling not so well. I don’t know why, but it’s probably something hanging over from the cold I had a while back. I’m sure it’s great that I am going into work and walking around in a t-shirt and shorts too. Anyway my ncse was all stuffed up and I ended up not feeling too well at all.

Went to work for a while and then out to this great coffee shop in south minneapolis with Di. They had some of the most yummy strawberry cream cake. I understand the reasoning behind bringing home a cake in japanese anime now - if they make all the cakes as well as some of the coffee shops around here, I would be happy to get one too! After that work started interrupting. I’m sure I was one of the most boring people ever to Di at the Perkins as I talked for half an hour to Nikos about the state of the lab and ordering.

Eating was nice, talking to Di, than it was back to Di’s place for more West Wing season 2 (2 episodes left!) and sweet, sweet slumber. This morning I got a nice gesture from Di - a hot cup of healing tea. All of her healing teas that I’ve tasted so far are just awful. That’s probably part of the healing process though, and she’s sweet for making them for me anyway. She gave me this cool essential oil that smells like spearmint or something. It’s working great - I’m not stuffed up at all.

I forgot to mention in my last entry that I spent some time with my sister and parents in St. Peter Saturday. My sister has finals this week and my parents were moving out a bunch of her stuff. We had Chinese in town and saw the senior projects of some art students there at Gustavus. I got grilled about Di. They seem to not mind her, at least from the answers I gave - then again I may have put a little spin on it. :)

My 80’s Toy

Weekend? What’s That?

This weekend was fairly full, considering how much money wasn’t spent. Couch ordeal on thursday, we went to see Shrek 2. Friday was mostly taken up with going to a cafe across the street called Seward Cafe and going to a meeting with Nikos about the possibility of a move again. Did some work during that meeting because I wasn’t hearing anything that I hadn’t heard before, and at this point I really don’t care. I want him to decide so that I can get on with my life, but other than that I’m trying to not think about it too much. The stress would get to me. Of course, he was supposed to make his desicion known to us on the 15th, and then it was last Tuesday, and now he really doesn’t know.

Also on Friday I got a couple of nifty things in the mail: my new phone and the 2nd season of West Wing. These make me happy. The new phone is working out okay - people still don’t call me that often, but now at least I can use it for things when they do. My old phone was starting to break, so it’s a good thing. It was also a free phone because AT&T decided to give it away for free to anyone who signs up for automatic billing, except that I am already on automatic billing so hooray, free phone.

The second season of West Wing is really great. I’ve watched 12 of the episodes so far, 10 to go. I’m sure I’ll put up a review of it when I’m done, since my new blog format is geared toward that sort of thing.

Saturday was a lazing around the apartment day, watching West Wing and generally enjoying the company of Di. Later in the evening we got cabin fever so we went out to a couple bars in search of fried food, which we both had a craving for. After a couple of unsuccessful stops, ended up at Buffalo Wild Wings which, true to their name, have excellent wings. We’ll have to play trivia next time.

Sunday was another day of doing nothing and watching TV without commercials. In the evening, we went to Chad and Kristy and Brandy’s place to watch some Anime (Fruits Basket) and hang around in general. It was an okay time, even though I had seen the series before and didn’t really like it. There was enough heckling at the TV for me to stand it a second time. Plus the company wasn’t bad.

Movie: Shrek 2

Saw Shrek 2 last week. The movie starts with the premise of meeting the inlaws, which always seems like a decent start to a comedy movie. There are the requisite “I don’t like you” from the father. After a prescribed part of that, there is the main plot - Shrek feeling bad about not being good enough for Fiona. Of course, at this point you can see where the movie will end up, but the writers make it worth your while to stay along for the journey. It’s a movie I’ll have to see on DVD in order to catch all the jokes. Unfortunately some of them are topical, so don’t look for them to make sense without context later in life.

The movie’s animation wasn’t spectacular. There are a few scenes that had a lot of closeup hair or grass that was interesting, but other than that, the entire movie had a very cartoonish feel to it. I’m not sure if it was deliberate or just because of shoddy rendering on the part of Dreamworks.

Overall, it was worth it to pay to see in the theater, and I would probably go again if I was with friends. It’s a maybe on the DVD rental - only if there aren’t other movies I haven’t seen and that may be good. For now I’ll give it a 4.

Notice I don’t tell you out of how many, or what the scale is like. I think I’ll figure that out later or something.

The Legend of the Couch

Went to pick up a couch today that I spotted on LJ. This couch is huge, and is a sectional but has very heavy sections because one of them has a hideabed in it. The ordeal of getting it from Burnsville to Di’s place started at 7am this morning, when I called the UHaul place and they didn’t have our reservation. Originally we were going to use a SUV from a friend, but that fell through. Anyway we just stopped by at 9:30 or so and then picked up the truck. They gave us the truck with no issue – even though my driver’s license is out of state and expired.

Drove to the girl’s place and spent about half an hour or more taking the sectional piece by piece and loading it into the truck. It’s a good thing we didn’t use the SUV, because there’s no way that it would have fit in there. It just barely fit into a 10 foot truck. Said goodbye to the awesome girl who gave us the couch and went on our way. We enlisted the help of Mike when we got back to Di’s place, and getting it to the first floor seemed a bit easier.

After that, we went to Papito’s with Ben and Kelly for a nice lunch and stopped by the Amazon Book Store and a little ice cream shop on the way home. Sitting on the couch now. It’s comfy. Time for a nap, I think.

A New Blogging Day

I think that I finally have PyBloxsom the way that I want it. reStructuredText entries are working, which is nice, because then I don’t have to type annoying HTML all the time. The layout is new, and working out good, and I have the custom plugin in order to make the side menu you see over there work just right. It puts the most recent three titles of entries over there, just for fun. Anyway, I’m hoping that I can organize things a little better this way, and also get things syndicated that some people want and others don’t. Hoping to make a /debian which is syndicated to Planet Debian. I just need to get the fake categories plugin I found here working.

My First Post

Okay, so this is my first post on the new blog. It will be a new day, a day of non-LJ entries and a day of syndication on Planet Debian.

The Monthly Diet Update

Well, it seems that my diet is still working, contrary to me actually not thinking about it in the slightest in the meantime. I guess it doesn’t bother me that I’m still losing weight without really trying, except I wonder why. I hope it isn’t the stress.
