Life, Jim, but Not as We Know It..

Well, things have been going okay in my life except for a couple things. Diana has been sick for the last three days, which means she’s staying at home over the weekend and couldn’t work at all. I’ve been trying to help her back to health. The TV broke last week, so we went out and bought a new one which is much better. This is the model we got, and I think we got a good deal at $199. The quality is better than the old TV and it’s of course not broken, which is it’s major advantage over the old one.

Yesterday my parents were in town, so I went to have brunch with them at Joe’s Garage, which was family style and very good. It was nice to see them because I didn’t get to go down for Thanksgiving and won’t see them for Christmas because we’re going to Indiana this year. We had a bunch of catching up time, extending beyong brunch to a short walk in Loring Park and through a couple shops on Nicollet.

Yesterday I had a little accident - after being out of the house the whole day, I went to drop off something for Di and stupidly double parked because I thought I was only going to be on the street for less than a minute. Of course, someone came around the corner. I scampered to my car and slipped on my way, causing a nasty sprain which has kept me sitting and lying down all day today basically. Hopefully it will be good enough tomorrow to go to work, which I anticipate - it’s been improving all day. I feel like crap because there was a pretty important meeting today at school which I missed. Di has been a dear with me basically incapicated for part of the day.

Amazing

I was actually very surprised, that this changed - I used to be worth nothing. I wonder what changed?

My blog is worth $5,645.40. How much is your blog worth?

Everything Old Is New Again

Well, I’ve switched blog software. WordPress is great, but recently I’ve been wanting to develop more things to put on the page, and the model that drupal uses is much easier to handle and seems much more flexible. The developers seem to have much more open source mindset - I don’t know why, it’s just a perception thing. It gives me much more control over which articles which go to different syndication places, like the LiveJournal feed and Planet Debian. Drupal also makes it much easier for users to setup their own feeds for categories, if some people are only interested in say, the book or movie reviews.

I also made a new theme which is pretty minimal. I’m hoping to add more features in the near future. A short list, which is probably not comprehensive:

  • Book Reading/Review Sidebar
  • Movie Review Sidebar
  • A little color, possibly some icons
  • Revamp the TrainSched page

Remote Control Wrapup

Recently in the States a new season of TV shows started - okay, so it was 3 or 4 weeks ago, but I haven’t gotten around to writing about it until now. In preparation for the new seasons, I reactivated the ReplayTV, which makes it much easier and less stressful to catch all the shows. Some of the shows were basically dead in the water before I even caught one glimpse. Most of the shows that I’m watching this time around is just more seasons of the same while picking a couple new shows mostly for actors. (Show list below the fold)

Current shows on the Replay:

  • CSI:, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY
  • How I Met Your Mother
  • Kitchen Confidential
  • Jeopardy!
  • Gilmore Girls
  • Supernatural
  • Bones
  • Numb3rs

I’ve watched a few other shows this season, but they didn’t really grab me as good. Not that the ones above are good, but they are nice to relax to when I end my workday. Another new development in leisure is a new remote control - I lost the old one and decided that we could use one that can control everything we have. I’m very happy with not having more than one control for all of our stuff.

Pictures

Obviously they don’t count lossless JPEGs..

You are .jpg You are very colorful. Sometimes you forget things, or distort the truth. You like working with pictures more than words. Which File Extension are You?

Starting, Sortof

Moving

The moving is finally almost done. We have a problem with the amount of shelving space that we have now - we switched a couple of the shelves and some of them aren’t setup yet, so we have a couple of boxes of books which are not unpacked because we don’t have shelf space. Other than that we have everything unpacked, although it’s somewhat unorgnaized.

School

School just started on Tuesday. I’m not taking any classes this semester, so things haven’t changed much for me, except for the large influx of new students and the craziness involved with that. I decided that I like the campus slightly more when it isn’t packed to the gills with students. I’m hoping to get a lot more stuff done this semester, and hopefully progress more towards my thesis.

Opera

I’ve started using Opera for browsing on the various machines I use and have admin control over. I feel sortof strange using non-free software to do a major part of my browsing. It’s extremely fast and very out of the way.

Diana

Diana’s so wonderful. Love her very much.

question mark You scored as agnosticism. You are an agnostic. Though it is generally taken that agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in God, it is possible to be a theist or atheist in addition to an agnostic. Agnostics don’t believe it is possible to prove the existence of God (nor lack thereof).

Agnosticism is a philosophy that God’s existence cannot be proven. Some say it is possible to be agnostic and follow a religion; however, one cannot be a devout believer if he or she does not truly believe. (Bar graphs folllow)

If Only I Could Now..

Well, as expected, I didn’t get the 5 things (oh yea, and about 40 sub-things) done today that I had planned on. However, I did take a big chunk out of it. I did clean the old place, making my hands raw. There is really less than one carload left at the old apartment now. Picking that up tomorrow at about 9:30am and then dropping off the keys with the manager of the building. We officially have the place until the 31st but I want to give them a chance to rent it out to someone else so we may get some of that last month’s rent back.

The office setup is next on the agenda tomorrow. I hope to have it up and running so that I can deliver the stuff I was supposed to deliver yesterday and my debian packages. We got a nice bedframe at IKEA today and I set it up, it took far too long but it will be good for us I think to have. Now we have one more thing we should get rid of - the foundation of the bed we used to use. It’s probably about $10 worth of injection-molded plastic, but Sleep Number sells it for $300, so we can probably get rid of it in short order.

After the office, it’s unpacking for the rest of everything. We have a general layout of what we want the apartment to look like, but we’re having to change it because the rooms aren’t quite the dimensions that we had planned on originally. Also, I think we’re going to have to move the light somewhere else, because it’s not going to jive well with the recliner part of the couch.

Sleepy time now.

I Was Sitting, Waiting, Wishing..

Well, after I got everything done on the list today the movers came and moved all fo the stuff. Di showed up at just the right time and the timing was perfect with the movers and the keys and everything. Got out of it far under the budget I was planning on. Unfortunately the entire new place is filled with boxes and nothing is unpacked right now.

The new place is great - even with all of the boxes it’s better than the old apartment. Diana likes it a ton as well so I think we’re going to be good here until we move somewhere permanent. First utility to be tested in the new apartment? Cable internet of course. It’s working fine!

Any bets on us getting all of this done tomorrow? Come on, there’s only 5 things! :)

You Gotta Be Clean…

Moving is coming along as expected. The apartment looks really bare now, and that’s to be expected since we are moving tomorrow. I’m nervous mostly because I don’t know when the movers are coming - hopefully they will show up sometime around 2pm, instead of some time around 11am. I love it when important things like movers are scheduled for a three-hour window.

In order to ease my mind, and get things done quicker in the morning, I present a list of things (ordered this time, as this is the order I must finish them in) which I must do tomorrow:

  1. Pack microwave, Wok
  2. Dissassemble kitchen table
  3. Take out trashbags
  4. Pack Bathroom Stuff
  5. Drive Di’s Car up to side door
  6. Load up Di’s Car with things we’re definitely transporting ourselves (mostly computers and important documents)
  7. Load up the rest of Di’s car with other stuff we don’t mind hauling ourselves and fits
  8. Attempt to move things which are being professionally moved into living room
  9. Random cleaning

I’ve been testing a drupal installation today. I don’t have it themed yet, but the setup is here. Until it gets themed and takes over, I’ll be mirroring posts both here and there.
